Doing Demolition Right – and SAFE!

December 14, 2017

If you’ve watched any “Funniest Video” shows that have popped up in the last twenty years, or enjoyed any number of “fail” videos that appear online, you’ll most certainly have seen catastrophic and sometimes hilarious clips of people doing their own demolition that fall into one or more of the following categories:

- Home remodels

- Garage builds

- Tree trimming

- Shed removals

- Ambitious house flips

- Kitchen remodels

- Structure razing

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that there are professionals that have years of experience and training to handle demolition – and that while you may think it will save you money in the long-run, it may also cause serious injury if not taken seriously.

Hopefully it goes without saying that safety always comes first but we’ve listed some demolition tips that will help you if you go it alone:

Safety must be first. Get the proper gear for your eyes, ears, hands, feet and anything else you want to keep intact

Use the right power tools that will save you time and keep all your fingers and toes attached

Break down large pieces into smaller pieces – they’ll be easier to manage and optimize your dumpster space

When you’re working with concrete, minimize dust and jagged flying shards, cover with a tarp

Rent a dumpster with a gate – you’ll save time and your back if you’re not hoisting material up and over the edge

Drive dust outside with a box fan placed in the window – breathing and seeing becomes a challenge if dust is too present

At Sanford & Son, we take demolition very seriously. We ensure our team is properly trained, outfitted and have the proper tools and protective gear to ensure a safe and swift demolition. Not only will we guarantee the job, we’ll clean up the job site as if we were never there.

Don’t assume you’ll simply save money by doing your own demolition. In some cases, and on smaller projects, that may be the true, but it’s always safest to consult with a professional before you start swinging that sledgehammer or powering up that saw. Save yourself the time and agony of your demolition project and give us a call today – we’d love to do your dirty work. Sanford and Son is available seven days a week and no project is too small.
